The Black Cock Inn

The Black Cock Inn is a Sixteenth Century South Lakeland Coaching Inn, with easy access for Lake Windermere, Coniston Water and the beautiful Duddon Valley, much loved by William Wordsworth, and a haven for both the dedicated and casual walker.

There is a step down into the lounge bar which has been renovated to keep the olde worlde charm and character, though there are far too many tables and you rub knees with other visitors. This has also reduced the room to stand. A further eating area is where the old Pool and Games Room was, up some steps at the rear of the pub, cleverly converted from the old stables.

There is also a spacious comfortable dining room which seats twenty people in a room behind the fireplace. Beers on at the time were Theakston's Best, Charles Wells Bombardier, and Black Cock Inn Best (Theakston's).

Food is served 12-2pm and 6-9pm (Sun 7-9pm). Not much choice for vegetarians, but plenty for meat eaters. Portions are fine and the quality is good as are prices.

There is accommodation here - 3 rooms. The facilities are good and there are twins, doubles and family rooms, some of which are en-suite, each with colour television, hot and cold water and tea and coffee making facilities - from around £35 pp. All are pleasantly decorated. Seating outside.
