Penny Blacks  

Situated in the Mailbox development, Penny Blacks Wine & Ale House is a big bar with a traditional pub feel, on the Gas Street canal basin.

There is a welcoming lively atmosphere, from business types during the day and some might say the pretentious at night. It is a wine bar, pub and restaurant, so the clientèle is mixed though usually a young crowd.

Food is served here with a mix of classics and modern English dishes. While prices are reasonable, watch out for the 10% service charge being added automatically to your bill. Whatever happened to the customer deciding if the service and quality deserved it?

There is Sky sports here and a quiz night on Mondays.
