The Sun Inn  

This 17th Century Lakeland inn is at the foot of Skiddaw in Bassenthwaite close to the lake.

It is a former farmhouse with original beams and open fires. It offers home cooked food every day 6-8.45pm; all day Sat/Sun. A full gluten-free menu is also available. Pickled onions at all times.

They serve ales from Jennings brewery, plus a guest.

This is a walkers pub, though they prefer you not to wear your dirty boots indoors.

A new ‘snug’ adult only dining room has been added and the bar area now caters for drinkers with their own tables which are no longer reservable for food.

For the summer there is a sun terrace protected by screens and umbrellas giving views over the fell and Skiddaw.

Remember this is a remote area and as such winter opening times vary, so ring ahead.
