The Riverside Inn

This is a popular pub, both for its food and its beer. The beer range varies, but usually has a Wye Valley and a Woods. It also varies by amount. Sometimes it only has two ales on. Situated by the river (Lugg) and the bridge, it is on a fast bit of road which can make it difficult to get out of at times. From the outside the old part of the pub is black and white, but there is another part more barn like leading down to the river. You generally enter the pub through the rear car park area. This means you get to walk past the kitchens and you enter into a lobby by the toilets – which have two steps up to them. The bar area in the old section has that olde worlde charm that only lots of shoes and history can give. The seating here is a mixture of settles and stools at various table sizes. The ceiling s are low here and the atmosphere can be intimate except when very busy. The bar itself is not large and so being served at busy times is not easy but the staff work hard at it. The walls are decked out with knick knacks and pictures of the local area. If you go through to the other side of the bar, there is more seating and you pass the stairs for the accommodation. These other areas have higher ceilings and seem more modern – one of these rooms is no smoking. They are usually decked out for eating. This pub is very busy evenings and weekends for food and you must book in advance to guarantee a table. The food is very gastro pub with plenty of choice for vegetarians. Starters are over £5 and mains range from £10-£17 on this occasion.

The Riverside is often used as a base for walking and fishing (they have their own licensed stretch). Children are welcome though only if well behaved and supervised by the river.

Well worth a stop off if visiting the nearby Croft Castle or on your way to Ludlow.
