The Royal Oak

Situated in Bongate, the oldest part of Appleby-in-Westmorland, it is an ideal centre for touring The Lakes, the Pennines, and the Borders as well as being close to walking country of exceptional beauty.

Appleby is the old county town of Westmorland situated in the lovely Eden Valley to the south of the great escarpment of the Northern Pennines, east of the Cumbrian fells and to the west and north of the Southern Pennines enjoying a micro climate of its own being both dryer and warmer than the surrounding areas. Only a mile from the Trans-Pennine A66 it is also 1 Mile from Appleby Station on the famous and spectacular Settle-Carlisle railway.

The Royal Oak has many loyal local and visiting customers who appreciate the comfort and the warm welcome from the staff.

Food is served both lunchtimes and evenings. The lunchtime menu includes a range of sandwiches, hot baguettes, jacket potatoes and a range of heartier meals. Evening meals vary in choice, but include: lamb envelope, Stuffed Local Trout, and Mushroom Stroganoff.

There is accommodation here, 7 rooms all en-suite & 2 single rooms with private facilities. Prices start from £48 depending on occupancy and time of year. There are also special bargain breaks available, call for details. Pets are allowed in the bedrooms and children are welcome in the pub also.

If you book to stay here and travel by train, let the pub know your time of arrival in Appleby and they will meet you at the station.
